Two Inuvik women are facing murder charges after the body of a man was discovered behind a building on Aug. 25.

RCMP reported the charges shortly after 4 p.m. on Aug. 27.

Police say they found the remains of a 39-year-old man behind a building and concluded the individual was the victim of a homicide.

Following an investigation, RCMP arrested and charged two women.

Annabelle Edwards, 24, and Felicia Elanik, 20, both of Inuvik, are each a facing a charge of second-degree murder and performing an indignity to human remains.

Both of the accused remain in custody and are scheduled to appear in territorial court on Sept. 3.

A publication ban has been placed on any details related to the incident, according to the RCMP, and the police investigation is still underway in partnership with the Office of the Chief Coroner.
