A tragedy in Vancouver during Lapu Lapu Day festivities has touched people across Canada, and that includes the Philippine Cultural Association of Yellowknife (PCAY).
An SUV plowed into a crowd on April 26, killing 11 people and injuring many more. The suspect has been identified as Kai-Ji Adam Lo, 30. He's being held by police and is facing multiple murder charges.
The PCAY is responding to the tragedy with a vigil that's scheduled to take place on May 2 at the Somba K'e Park Amphitheatre at 6:30 p.m. Organizers said everyone is welcome to attend.
"With heavy hearts, we grieve the tragedy that occurred on Saturday, April 26, during the Lapu Lapu Day Festival — a day meant to celebrate the resilience, courage and strength of our people and culture," PCAY stated in a news release. "We extend our deepest love, thoughts, and prayers to the families who have lost loved ones, and to everyone who is mourning and grieving at this time. We mourn with you, and we stand beside you in this time of sorrow."
