A 42-year-old man from Inuvik has been charged with aggravated assault after a woman was found injured inside a residence in the community, the RCMP stated on Friday afternoon.
The police were called to a home on March 13 and told that someone inside suffered injuries. Initially, the responding officers were told that the female victim had fallen.
The RCMP determined that the injuries were not consistent with a fall and that a weapon had been used.
The woman was taken to hospital for treatment.
The accused was held in custody, pending a court date. His name is not being released because the man and woman are intimate partners and the victim鈥檚 identity would then be revealed indirectly, the police noted.
